Financial Reporting Manager (Assistant Controller)

Your role as a Financial Reporting Manager (Assistant Controller) will focus on financial reporting while also providing oversight for daily

Financial Services operations that include: Financial Reporting: Assisting with the preparation and review of comprehensive financial statements following Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) accounting principles, collaborating with the Vice President (VP) of Financial Services and the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Financial Services to create and implement processes for new GASB pronouncements, oversee and/or prepare required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather financial data and disclosures for inclusion in financial accounting records and reports.

Internal Controls and Processes: Assisting with the design and implementation of robust internal control procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards, GASB requirements, internal policies, best practices, etc., and developing and maintaining documented accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.

Financial Services Operations Oversight: This role will include preparation and review of Utah Housing Corporation (UHC) activities recorded in the general ledger including payroll, accounts payable, mortgage loan and other receivables, bonds payable, investments, etc. to ensure all information is reported accurately and timely. The AVP and this position will each take oversight ownership of specific areas in the Financial Services operations. Both positions will receive cross-training on the other areas to serve as backup to those duties. The specific areas will be determined based on the candidate hired and the department’s needs. Work with VP and AVP on existing processes and make suggestions and/or changes to improve efficiencies. Respond to internal and external auditors’ questions/requests in a timely and accurate manner.

Qualifications to be successful as the Financial Reporting Manager (Assistant Controller), you should have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a bachelor’s degree in any discipline along with a master’s degree in accounting or business, 5+ years of experience in accounting or auditing roles. The Financial Reporting Manager (Assistant Controller) candidate will also need to have experience in financial statement preparation, review, or auditing, and prior experience reading and interpreting Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) or GASB rules and guidelines. A strong understanding of internal controls and processes related to financial reporting and accounting operations, and excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
