Assistant Controller

Position Summary: Plays a central role in the development, direction, and oversight of PPAU’s finance and accounting activities. Under the leadership of the CFO and Controller, the Assistant Controller will assist in the overall efficient functioning of the finance department, creating accurate and timely financial records for the organization. Responsibilities include maintaining PPAU’s general ledger(s), treasury management, inter-company reconciliations and public grant administration. Provides support in the administration of other finance cycles, preparation of monthly and year-end financial reports, and audit as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Record revenue in an efficient and accurate manner
  • Treasury management, including bank reconciliations and cash flow management
  • Reconcile revenue and expenses with other departments and systems
  • Provide backup for other accounting functions, as needed
  • Assist monthly financial close including amortization and depreciation
  • Prepare monthly accruals, account reconciliations, and intercompany entries
  • Help establish and maintain organizational accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Provide oversight and administration of public grants, as needed
  • Provide secondary oversight, as needed, of other accounting processes including AP, Payroll etc
  • Provide excellent customer and internal support for any accounting related emails or queries
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for the users in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of related experience in accounting roles.
  • Balance sheet reconciliation, journal entry preparation and both transactional and operational accounting experience required.
  • Experience in MS Excel plus ability to learn Sage Intacct.
  • Excellent communication skills, problem-solving experience and initiative required.
  • Non-profit accounting experience strongly preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in a mission-driven environment.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination and yearly influenza vaccination required.
